Child Protection Policy

This child protection policy and procedure forms part of our safeguarding children arrangements.

Parent Partnership Policy

We know that as a parent, you know your child best. Therefore, we value being able to work in partnership with you so that we can share the information that will help in your child’s development.

Behaviour Management Policy

It is important to consider the reasons why children might present certain types of behaviour. We provide a supportive framework for children and staff to manage behavioural issues

Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy

Sticky Fish preschool aims to provide inclusive play and learning opportunities for all children. Staff, students and volunteers with additional needs will be welcomed and supported appropriately.

Admissions Policy

We are a term-time only pre-school, for children aged between 2 ½ years and (up to) 5 years operating Monday to Friday, 9.30 until 12.30. An optional lunch session is available until 1pm.

Anti-Bullying Policy (written with reference to Kidscape)

Sticky Fish Pre School aims to provide a caring, friendly and safe environment for all our children. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at Sticky Fish Pre-School. We will discuss bullying, what it is and what can be done.

Attendance Policy

Sticky Fish views good attendance and punctuality as important for the learning and well-being of children. Children at Sticky Fish who arrive and are collected on time are more secure and better able to engage with the learning environment.

Child with allergies

To minimise the risk of any child suffering allergy-induced anaphylaxis whilst at Sticky Fish.

Complaints Policy and Procedure

All complaints which we receive should be treated seriously and investigated fully and fairly. Sticky Fish Pre-school will always try to resolve complaints informally and where possible in an amicable fashion.  The Pre-school’s complaints procedure is divided into Informal and Formal Stages and it is expected that the majority of complaints will be resolved quickly at the Informal Stage.

Confidentiality & Data Protection Policy

We understand that at times, the work of the setting and with children, families and staff will bring our staff into contact with confidential information. To ensure that all who use and work in the setting can do so in confidence, confidentiality will be respected.

Covid Risk Assessment

This risk assessment assists Sticky Fish Pre-school in preventing the transmission of Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the setting.

Emergency Evacuation Procedure (including Fire Safety)

Fire drills will take place every term at different times. The purpose of the drill is to familiarise the children with the procedure and the noise of the alarm.

Equal Opportunities Policy

We exist to provide childcare to all parents, both those who work and those who stay at home with their children, within the limits of our opening hours. We will strive to make this service accessible to all parents who wish to use it. We will work to ensure that no child, individual* or family will be unlawfully discriminated against on the grounds of age, sex, sexuality, family status, means, disability, race, ethnic origin, culture, religion or belief.

First Aid Policy and Procedure

In our setting, staff are able to take action to apply first aid treatment in the event of an accident involving a child or adult. At least one member of staff with a current First Aid certificate is on the premises, or on an outing.

Health and Safety Policy and Practice

Our setting believes that the health and safety of children is of paramount importance. We make our setting a safe and healthy place for children, parents, staff and volunteers.

Healthy Eating Policy

Our aim is to ensure all children are provided with healthy food and drink while they are in preschool.  We know that an unhealthy diet in childhood can contribute to a range of health conditions and behavioural problems which can impact on learning. 
Healthy eating habits formed in the early years can have a positive impact on health throughout life. 

Information Sharing Policy

We record and share information about children and their families in line with the seven principles of the General Data Protection (GDPR) which are further explained in our Privacy Notice that is given to parents. Our procedure is based on the GDPR principles.  We will follow guidance on information sharing from the KBSP (local Safeguarding Board) and BAND.

Late Collection of Child Procedure

All children MUST be collected at 12.30 pm (1pm if staying for lunch), or at 2.30 if using the extended hours.  If parents are not able to collect their child as planned, they must inform us IMMEDIATELY so that we are able to put into action back-up procedures and so that the child is caused as little distress as possible.

Missing Child Procedure

Once a child is found to be missing, inform all members of staff on duty immediately. All areas of the setting including the outside area must be thoroughly searched.

Multi-Media and E-Safety Policy and Procedure

This policy runs through the responsibilities of management and staff when using cameras, mobile phones, and computers and how to safeguard children’s welfare and minimize the risk of harm.

Nappy Changing and Toileting / Personal Care Policy Statement

All children are treated with dignity, care and compassion during nappy changing/toileting. When a child is ready to make the transition from nappies/pull ups to pants, we work in collaboration with parents/carers to ensure a consistent approach. We see toilet training as a self-care skills that children have the opportunity to learn with the full support and non-judgemental concern of caring adults.

Outbreak Management

This outbreak management plan will outline how we will operate to help manage a COVID-19 outbreak within our setting or local area. This includes how we will ensure every child receives the quality of care to which they are normally entitled. This plan will outline the roles and responsibilities of those involved in managing an outbreak.

Outdoors policy

This policy should be read in conjunction with our Health and Safety, and Equal Opportunities policies. Our Outdoor policy relates to all of the Every Child Matters outcomes and meets the Early Years Foundation Stage welfare requirements.

Payment of Fees

A bill for fees will be issued at the beginning of each half term. Fees will not be charged for In-service Training days. Fees must be paid in advance. This can be weekly, monthly or half-termly. Payment can be made by cash, bank transfer, or with valid childcare vouchers.

Privacy Notice

The purpose of this Privacy Notice is to tell you about what information is collected about you and your child when you register with Sticky Fish, how we use that information and with whom we may share that information.

Secure Storage, Handling, Use, Retention and Disposal of Disclosures and Disclosure Information

As an organisation using the DBS (formerly CRB) to help assess the suitability of applicants for positions of trust, Sticky Fish Pre-school complies fully with the DBS Code of Practice regarding the correct handling, use, storage, retention and disposal of Disclosures and Disclosure information.

Settling in Policy

Sticky Fish Pre-school has an annual intake in September. It has a secondary intake in January. If a place becomes available after this, we consult the waiting list.

All families are encouraged to visit the pre-school with their child at least once so that staff can meet the child, the child can familiarise him/herself with the premises and parents can discuss their perceptions of the child’s needs on settling-in.

Sick Child Policy and Procedure

arents are asked to keep their children at home if they have a serious infection, and to inform the pre-school as to the nature of the infection. This will allow the pre-school to alert other parents as necessary and to make careful observations of any child who seems unwell.

Staff Code of Conduct

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.

Staffing and Employment Policy

Staff qualifications meet the regulatory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), but we strive to encourage all staff to be qualified to a current and relevant Level 3 standard or working towards this.

Teaching and Learning Policy

At Sticky Fish it is our aim to provide a place which enables all children to play, explore, learn and develop in a supportive environment where each child can feel safe, secure, loved and listened to. Through exploring the world around them and interacting with others, children grow in confidence and begin to see themselves as competent, capable learners.

Whistle Blowing Policy and Procedure

Whistle blowing is reporting a serious concern about another member of staff or volunteer to a more senior member of staff or to an appropriate external organisation if necessary. The organisation will not tolerate any harassment or victimisation and will take appropriate action to protect those who report a concern in good faith.
